Charlotte Evening Bridge is a trade name used by partners Tom Hunt and Julie Arbit, who are the co-proprietors of the Tuesday and Thursday evening bridge games played at the Charlotte Bridge Association, 510 E Park Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203 between 6:30 pm to 9:00 p.m.
Tom has been a resident of Charlotte only since 2007, but has deep family roots in the South commencing from his great-great-great grandfather, Nathaniel Hart, who established the first reform synagogue in Charleston, South Carolina. Tom’s love of bridge began when he was a young boy kibbitzing while his parents played rubber bridge with their friends. He seriously took to the game upon his semi-retirement to Charlotte and has since played in many local, regional and national events. In the Summer 2017 Nationals in Toronto, he and Zach Brescoll took second place in the Bruce life-master pairs. Tom is a also certified ACBL bridge instructor and director. While not playing bridge, Tom studies Italian and works as a part-time instructor of mathematics at Central Piedmont Community College.
Julie Arbit is an ACBL certified director and bridge teacher. She began playing bridge in 2011 as an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan, and relocated to Charlotte in 2016 for school. Julie has been playing bridge professionally for 3 years now, and offers a few different kinds of bridge lessons. She is the proprietor of the highly successful Saturday morning “Barometer” teaching game at the Charlotte Bridge Association. In her (sparse) time away from the bridge table, Julie is pursuing a Master’s in Urban Planning online through Penn State. She enjoys cooking, gardening, and fostering kittens in need of a ‘forever home’.
